Seeing potential in discarded objects, this is what my art is about. There is a secret thrill in roaming antique malls, estate sales, and wandering off park paths. My treasured finds are old drawers with chipped paint, wooden ash trays, dried seed pods and turtle shells. The list of materials is limitless.
Then there’s the assembling of a book or creative box. It’s important for me to have a quote or poem or some message on which I’m basing my project. Often I turn to favorite books for inspiration.
When I’m working its an energetic movement of gluing, painting, cutting and fitting the pattern of pieces together. I’m in this state of energy, completely focused and time just passes. When it all comes together, I’ve created something that is surprising. It’s a wonderful journey and I can’t wait to start the whole process over again.
