ADULT WORKSHOPS

Join the Foundry Art Centre for an evening of grown-up fun! Bring a date, a friend, bring any adult you want. No art skills needed, but you can flex those social muscles as you pick up a new creative skill. 21+ only, please. All supplies are included.


 

Stitch ‘n B***h
Monthly on Thursdays: May 30, June 20, July 18, August 15 | 6:00 to 8:00 pm | FREE

Stitch ‘n Bitch with us during the Foundry’s new FREE fiber crafts club. All fiber crafts are welcome, from knitting, to embroidery, to crochet and beyond. Whether it’s your first time trying it, or you’re a pro. This is not a fibers class, but crafters are welcome to help each other out. Vibe with us as we craft, casually watch movies, and… bitch. BYO snacks. Select beverages may even be available for purchase 👀. Join us!


Open Figure Drawing
Monthly on Wednesdays: May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14 | 6 - 8 pm | $10 per session | Limit 15

The Foundry Art Centre is offering an opportunity to draw from a live model without instruction. The Foundry will provide a model for 2 hours during which participants can practice their figure drawing at their own pace, work on incorporating a figure into an existing piece, or however they’d like to use their time. Foundry staff members – who are also practicing artists – will facilitate the session. Each session will include a series of short poses (1 – 5 min) as well as some longer poses (10 – 20min).  It is recommended that participants bring tools and surfaces of their choice to the session.

Zumba at the Foundry Art Centre
Wednesdays, April 24, May 1, May 15, & May 29 | 5:30 - 6:30 pm | $10 | Limit 25

Head to the Foundry to get your fitness on in a fun and interactive way! Join us for Zumba, an interval-style dance fitness party that combines low-intensity and high-intensity moves. You'll burn lots of calories as you move to the rhythm with Latin-inspired dance moves. The best part of it all is that it doesn't even feel like exercise!

Mixed Media Altered Clipboard
Saturday, April 27 | 1 - 3 pm | $45 | Limit 15 

It’s time to welcome summer with a garden-themed altered clipboard! Artist Lana Graham will help you take your creativity to a whole new level with this mixed-media wall hanging. Learn how to layer colors and textures using various painted papers and beautiful paper flowers. By the end of the session, you will have created a stunning mixed-media clipboard that is suitable for everyday use, or just for decorating your home. Keep it for yourself, or give it to someone special next month!

Upcycle Your Clothing with Block Prints
Thursday, July 11 | 10:30 am to 12 pm | $35 | Limit 12

Creativity meets sustainability in this fascinating workshop where you will not only learn to carve your own printing block, but you will also breathe new life into one or more pieces of your clothing!  Christine Tavares will teach attendees how to create stamps for printing on fabric, followed by a guided printmaking session on any article of clothing or fabric. Attendees are encouraged to bring clothing from their closet that may be stained or flawed to upcycle. Participants will leave the workshop with a new piece of clothing, a few experiment pieces and a new skill set for a future use. All printmaking materials all provided.

Floral Arranging at the Foundry
Thursday, June 13 | 6 - 8 pm | $65 | Limit 20

Join us at the Foundry Art Centre for a fun evening of floral arranging. Enjoy a cocktail or a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice as Christine Laurentius from Blushing Bloom Designs leads you step-by-step in designing a beautiful summer arrangement.  You will walk away with floral arranging tips, some new friends, and a beautiful fresh arrangement designed by you!  We will provide all of the flowers and a simple vase.  Just bring yourself, a friend or two, and your creativity!

Pet Portrait Painting
Monday, June 17 | 11 am to 1:30 pm | $50 | Limit 10

Those big, sweet eyes. Those lovable, furry paws. You have the best pet in the world, don’t you? In this exciting painting workshop, you will create a lasting memory of your favorite pet!  Our experienced instructor Beena McMahan will guide you throughout the entire process. She will break the painting down into easy-to-follow- steps while sharing pro-artist tips throughout the session.  When you register you’ll be sent instructions in a confirmation email on how to submit a clear photo of the pet’s face so our instructor can prepare supplies in advance of the class. Please note that we are only able to include one pet in the painting. All supplies provided.  Dress to be messy!

Beginner Wheel Throwing
Wednesday, June 19, Wednesday, July 17 | 10:30 am to 12 pm | $45 - Limit 6

During this summer workshop, Education Coordinator Christine Tavares will teach you the basics of how to throw on the potter's wheel by learning how to center, open, pull, and make small cups and bowls.  Students will typically complete around 3-5 pieces to fire.  You pick your colors, and Christine will glaze it for you.  Your pieces are usually ready for pick up in two weeks.  This class is for adult students (ages 18+) with little to no experience in ceramics.  All supplies provided. Dress to be messy!

 

Beginner Embroidery - Lavender
Saturday, July 27 | 1 - 4 pm | $75 | Limit 15

In this beginners’ embroidery class, artist JoAnna Jackson of Nestfeathers will teach students embroidery basics along with several stiches to create a lovely bouquet of lavender. You will master the stem stitch, running stitch, and French knot as you embroider a bouquet of lavender designed by JoAnna. All supplies are provided, and you will leave with your embroidery project, hoop, needle, embroidery floss and the skills to continue your practice at home.
