Being Parts of Something
Brian Zimmerman
April 3 - May 23, 2026
Opening Reception April 3, 5-8pm
Being Parts of Something considers the ways we move through life as both isolated figures and interconnected forces. Choice, labor, and love are negotiations that enable the dance between what is held and what is becoming. Industrial materials and organic forms intermesh to illuminate an invisible chain of reliance: energy passed, shared, utilized, and dispersed. Here, independence is not separation, but participation - each action shaping and being shaped by everything else it touches.
About the Artist
Brian Zimmerman, born in Houston, Texas, is an artist, professor, and department chair based in Dallas. He earned a BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute, and an MFA from the University of California San Diego. His work has been shown in galleries, museums, and public art commissions domestically and abroad.
With a professional fabrication background in addition to his studio practice, Zimmerman's materials and interests cover a broad range and incorporate traditional media to found objects and custom components. His work explores compliments and contradictions, weaving and unraveling layers of meaning, and making the fast-paced familiar slow down to unpack its perceived intentions.
This exhibition is made possible with public support from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
