Cullen Curtis Cinder Block Linocut
Cullen Curtis Cinder Block Linocut
Two-color linocut, 38x40 inches, carved in 2022 by me, printed in 2024 by Pele Prints on Legion Stonehenge paper, edition of 20.
The humble subject matter of the cinderblock allows for a focus on geometry, opticality and the process of printmaking. Carved lines connect to one another end to end, eliminating outlines while still showing clear shifts between planes by altering line weights.
(It’s really big!)
About the Artist
Cullen Curtis is a printmaker and sculptural painter from St. Louis exploring topics of entropy, natural processes, and the built environment. Using household materials, the works are containers for an amount of labor and domestication within a lived human experience, and the accumulation of human imprints that occur in the lifespan of a residential building.
