Rachel Ferguson
Inside Voices
January 7 - March 19, 2022
Opening Reception January 7, 5-8 PM
As a painter, Rachel Ferguson is interested in visual communication, and as a figurative painter, especially how thoughts and emotions are communicated through body language. Her primary focus is on female figures, creating subtle narratives about their inner lives. For example, the tilt of the head or a lift of a shoulder can say so much about a person’s state of mind. An arched eyebrow can belie a smile.
Ferguson keeps her compositions simple and uses a single light source to help highlight the body language of her subjects. She loves portraying the individual beauty of her models, but her ultimate goal is to evoke the question: “What is she thinking?” Ferguson encourages the viewer to consider what might be going on beneath the surface.
