MOSAIC ART
Sue Giannotti is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and the founder of Mosaic Opus Studio near St. Louis, Missouri. She is a long-time instructor, a former board member of The Society of American Mosaic Artists, and a juror for several exhibitions in Italy.
Her art has been exhibited in the US, Italy, France, and Japan and resides in businesses, institutions, and residences across the US and in Italy and France. In addition to her wall pieces and sculptures, she creates large-scale architectural work for homes, businesses and liturgical sites including the largest one to date in New York City.
Originally trained in Italy in the classical method of mosaics, she uses the same ancient tools, materials, and techniques but in an evolved, contemporary way. Each piece of stone or glass is hand-cut with a mosaic hammer and chisel and then set one at a time with focused attention on the visual conversation between the pieces (tesserae). This contemplative practice further adds to the quiet and meditative sense in her work which aims to bring quiet and calm to an often noisy and fast-paced world.
