FIBER ARTS

Lisa Hinrichs is a St. Louis native and studio artist at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles Missouri. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BS in Architectural Design. She lives with her husband Eric and cat Lucy.

STATEMENT

My work is created using layers of wool, fabric and sometimes found objects. Different qualities of fiber and color used in the bottom layers directly and indirectly affect the textures and color on the surface of my pieces. Exploring the amazing alchemy of wool fiber, water and soap meshing themselves together with the pressure of my hands lets me express myself in ways that continue to evolve and surprise me.

At another level my work represents my fascination with the intersection of humanity and nature. I use organic forms to represent nature, geometric forms to represent the human created environment and my own process of to reveal fragility, repair and transformation.
